Our Literacy Woodland Pack was created to support the KS1 & KS2 Literacy curriculum. However, many of our young people are not working at ‘age expected’ goals due to their physical disabilities and developmental delay, meaning this pack is perfect for all our young people, no matter their age. Each pack contains a Yoto 3rd Generation Player, which is the ultimate screen-free audio player for kids, designed to inspire imagination and independence. Yoto offers a world of stories, music, learning, and adventure in a safe, kid-friendly way. It is incredibly easy to use: simply pop a Yoto card into the slot and let the fun begin. The Yoto is safe as it has no microphone or camera.
Within the Literacy pack, we have included seven Yoto story cards, featuring beloved tales. Alongside the Yoto Player, we have incorporated items to continue the story-based learning activities. For example, the A Squash and a Squeeze story sack comes with puppets and a book, enabling our young people to follow along with the story and use the puppets to act out what they hear.
To diversify the types of texts children engage with, we have included a Peter Rabbit vegetable patch grow kit. This activity allows children and young people to not only hear fictional stories but also learn how to follow instructions in text, witnessing the process from planting a seed to harvesting their own homegrown vegetables.
Finally, to round out the pack, we have included a rainbow phonics magnetic letters set. This set helps our young people practice sounding out and building words with colour-coded consonants, short vowels, and digraphs, providing a more tactile approach to learning sounds crucial for reading.
