During January 2011 the Caron Keating Foundation donated £5,000 to Strongbones for children with bone cancer for respite breaks and days out, hospital travel for treatment, and essential items such as bedding and clothes. This donation allowed us to support so many more families affected by bone cancer during 2011. These grants have been a lifeline to families who have had to become full time carers to their children whilst they undergo treatment or recover from limb amputation. This leaves families in dire straits at a time when finances should be their last worry. During treatment many children’s weight plummets and they spend a great deal of time recovering in bed, so applications for clothing, bedding and books are always high. Helping to keep a child’s morale up is imperative during treatment, so a planned respite break or day out is a wonderful thing for the whole family to enjoy together and for the children to look forward to. We feel honoured to be the recipient of a donation from Caron’s family and to be able to be part of Caron Keatons legacy.
