This June we attended our second trip to the Bendrigg Activity Centre where we took 70 people for an inclusive weekend of adrenalin filled action. Bendrigg is a fully accessible activity centre suitable for children with all disabilities. The weekend included accommodation with full wheelchair access and track hoists in each room, also containing profile beds and changing places. Activities involved zip-lining, abseiling, quarry abseil, archery, biking, bush crafts, wall climbing, canoeing, caving, and extreme swinging. All children were able to take part in these activities, even those with the most complex of needs i.e. oxygen or tracheostomy. Evenings consisted of sensory blanket making, camp fire singalongs with marshmallow toasting and inclusive games such as boccia. This is a weekend where where disabled children can take part together with their siblings. It was a weekend of total inclusion, pushing boundaries, experiencing new adventures and forging lifelong friendships and support networks. We are now fundraising for our 2020 trip.
